- Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin has launched the distribution of rice palliatives in Northwest Nigeria to alleviate economic hardships
- The initiative aims to support communities in seven states, ensuring equitable distribution through a federal government committee with political party representation
The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has launched the distribution of rice palliatives for the seven states in the Northwest region of Nigeria. A federal government committee led the distribution process, which began in Kano State.
Jibrin highlighted that this initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to alleviate the economic hardships faced by Nigerians. The rice palliatives are intended to support communities across Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa, and Zamfara states.
He also mentioned that the Federal Government Committee for Rice Distribution includes representatives from various political parties to ensure fairness, equity, and accountability.
“While the president’s efforts to provide palliatives are commendable, previous distributions faced issues with fairness, prompting a revised strategy. We are focused on equitable distribution and are incorporating grassroots committees into the process,” Jibrin stated.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, announced that Kano State would receive 19 trucks of 25kg bags of rice for immediate distribution. Additionally, Kano is expected to receive 70 more trucks of subsidized rice from the federal government soon.
Kyari also noted that the federal government had provided Kano State with 90 food items and 70 fertiliser trucks for distribution.
