  • On August 20, Organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protest said they are staging another nationwide demonstration scheduled to commence on October 1.
  • They added that the federal government did not meet any of the demands that triggered the 10-day nationwide protests.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says “hunger”  sponsored the #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria.

On August 1-10, thousands of Nigerians took to streets across the country to rail against a pervasive economic hardship.

The 10-day protest was marred by looting and arson in the north.

The protest was spearheaded by the Take-It-Back Movement and a raft of civil society organisations.

Before the marches kicked off, the federal government pleaded with youths to shelve the demonstrations.

Debo Ologunagba, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, spoke at a press conference on Monday in Abuja.

Ologunagba’s comments come on the heels of the arrest of the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajearo.

The PDP spokesperson said that hunger was the sponsor of the protest, urged the federal government to arrest hunger and not Nigerians.

“There is a need for caution. There was a protest in this country, the government did not do anything. You arrest some people and say they were terrorists and you charge them to court. You say some people were the sponsors of the protest,” he said.

“We know those who sponsored the protest. The sponsor is hunger. The President and his people should arrest hunger and there will be no problem. Let your policies that are draconian, that are bringing people to their knees. This is the season schools are resuming, we know what people are going through.”
