Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, accountability, and vigilance as they enter New Year 2025.
In a New Year message personally signed and shared with journalists on Tuesday, Atiku emphasized the importance of public awareness and active civic participation.
He urged citizens to monitor the actions of political leaders closely and ensure governance serves the people’s interests.
“This year marks an opportunity to reshape and redefine our national dialogue,” Atiku stated. “Nigerians must remain resolute in holding leaders accountable and preventing any misuse of power that could erode our freedoms and values.”
Reflecting on 2024, Atiku acknowledged the challenges but expressed gratitude for the resilience that has guided Nigerians through difficult times. He praised the nation’s unwavering faith and divine protection as sources of strength.
“The past year’s trials have strengthened our resolve,” he said. “As we step into 2025, let this spirit of faith and determination propel us forward.”
Atiku called on Nigerians to work collectively toward prosperity and to guard against divisions along ethnic or religious lines. He stressed the need to restrain governmental overreach and ensure leadership power is not abused.
He also expressed hope for an economic revival that would free citizens from the burdens of hardship. “May this year bring a revitalized economy, allowing Nigerians to breathe freely and live without the constant strain of financial struggles,” Atiku said.
In conclusion, Atiku urged Nigerians to celebrate the New Year with gratitude while remembering those who have suffered or lost their lives due to the nation’s ongoing challenges. “Let us honor their memory by committing to unity and good governance,” he added.
