BREAKING: Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olakulehin, dies two days after 90th birthday

  • Olubadan received his staff of office from Governor Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024, after ascending the throne.
  • Oba Olakulehin marked his 90th birthday on July 5, 2025, just two days before he passed away.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, is dead.

He reportedly passed on in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.

The monarch ascended the throne in July 2024 and spent just a year before his demise.

Oba Olakulehin, who was born on July 5, 1935, had turned 90 only two days earlier.

He received the staff of office from the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024.

He was installed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland amid prayers and royal blessings from traditional rulers across the state.

Oba Olakulehin’s reign was marked by a calm disposition and efforts to unify diverse interests in Ibadanland.

Community leaders often praised him for his fatherly role and listening ear to the concerns of the people.

Many Ibadan indigenes described his short reign as one that revived traditional values and harmony in the city.

Details of burial arrangements are yet to be announced by the Olubadan-in-Council.
