soblinkxAsomugha Sonia, a.k.a Soblinkx, is a budding singer who is unquestionably endowed and isn’t afraid to flaunt it. The Bums don’t lie sensation graduated from Imo State University, with a B.Sc in Political Science. She has this amiable girl-next-door personality that is totally different from her glamourous outlook. In this interview she opens up on her love for music and talks about sex and love.

What does sex mean to you?

Sex is fun when the individuals involved have mutual feeling for each other.

What is your opinion about sex before marriage?

Seriously, I want to have a taste of who I will be getting married to. I just want to know what it feels like with him. I am sure, of all the girls you have had sex with, there is this one person that it’s always nice with. The same thing applies to girls. A girl might have sex with five guys, but there will be this one person she enjoys it with.

How did you discover your music talent?

I have always known that I can sing. My grandma made me join the choir. I was also part of the choir in secondary school. I never knew I was going to be a musician. I was just doing it based on compulsion because my parents forced me to go for rehearsals. In my final year in Imo State University, a friend who is a male artiste told me he needs a female flavour in his song. I initially told him I was not a singer, but gave in after much persuasion from him. He called me later to tell me people loved what I did on the song. He started advising me that I could actually go into music and give it a try. I took it serious about two years ago.

Was there any objection from your parents when you told them about your love for music?

My dad is a conservative Christian, so he wanted me to do gospel music. I am a church girl, but I didn’t want to do gospel because I don’t want people to be judging me. Imagine a situation whereby I do a gospel song dressed in a sexy outfit? People will definitely judge me. You know the way people judge pastors, forgetting that we are all humans. Now that I don’t do gospel music, I want people to be shocked when they see me do some spiritual things.

How do you raise funds for your music?

I am a hustler. I sell female shoes and bags to make ends meet. Are you signed to any label? I am not officially signed to any label. We need to correct some things before I can say I am signed to a label.

What are the things you look out for before signing to a label?

The label should be able to take care of my needs. I look out for a label that can promote my songs and make me a household name. In addition, our profit sharing formula should also be something that would be reasonable. What inspired your song Pako? Pako is actually inspired by Fela. When I heard the beat, Fela’s genre of music came to my mind. It’s also about a guy that borrows cars, clothes and shoes in order to impress a lady. The song is produced by Molar Smith and mixed by Suka Sounds

As an upcoming artiste, what makes you different?

I want to be an example of someone doing music with good content. I want to be known for doing music with a storyline. As an artiste, the best places I draw my inspiration from will be my kitchen and my toilet. When I wake up in the morning especially, when I want to ease myself, I get some ideas right there. The melodies just come. For example, I have a lot of hooks recorded on my phone that I will still work on later in the studio. They came from the toilet.
Who is your celebrity crush?

I have so many of them. I crush on 2face and Dbanj. I crush on 2face because he is a nice person with a good heart. I crush on D’banj because of his personality.

What do you intend to flaunt in your Bums don’t lie video?

I intend shooting a simple video for that song where ladies of all sizes and shapes will be having fun. I am not ready to show off my boobs. I will be showing off my real self, not my naked self.

Do you consider yourself a sex symbol?

From what people say, I would say I consider myself a sex symbol. I know I am sexy. Sometimes, when I am alone, I take some nasty pictures just to see what I look like without clothes on. I crush on myself sometimes and snap some parts of my body to see why people admire them.

Why do you think artistes flaunt their sex appeal, and would you be doing that?

I don’t really know. Women are beautifully made. You never can tell what will happen. Tomorrow, you might see me dressing like Adele or showing the wild side of me. In as much as I want to be a bit wild, I still care about my family. I love to show off what I have and sometimes, I just love to cover it all up.

How would you describe your personality?

I am a real girl. I am nice, humble and sometimes strict.

Can you quit music for your relationship?

I can’t quit music for a relationship. My relationship should support my music and inspire me to do more.

What made you choose the name, Soblinkx?

Sonia is my name and I love shiny things popularly known as “Blings.” That’s why I decided to fuse the first part of my name with the “Blings.”

Have you ever had any experience with a guy who made an attempt to touch your bum?

It has happened in the past. A guy made an attempt to touch it in a club some years back. I was angry. It created a scene in the club between my friends and the guy’s friends. It was later resolved. He apologized and bought us some drinks.
