An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court arraigned a teenager, Shakiru Odebiyi on Wednesday for allegedly caught being a member of a secret society.

The 19-year-old boy who is an aluminium roofer and can not be traced to a certain address is currently facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and belonging to an unlawful society.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Inspector Donjour Perezi told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 16 at 4pm, at Agbotikuyo Street, Agege, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant and others at large unlawfully assembled in a manner that threatened people and disturbed the public.
The defendant and others at large also took an oath binding them to be members of Eye and Aiye confraternities.

He said the offences contravened sections 42 (a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 but the defendant pleaded not guilty.

The defendant was later granted N70,000 bail with two sureties by Magistrate Bukola Mogaji.

She said the sureties should be clergymen, traditional title holders or community leaders.

Mogaji said Odebiyi should be remanded at Kirikiri prison pending perfection of his bail conditions.

The case was adjourned till August 23.
