Uneasy in Akoko Area of Ondo State as a 300 level student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko was allegedly raped by soldiers deployed to a roadblock along Akungba-Ikare Akoko way.
The victim, a female student (name withheld) was ordered to step down from a taxi as she leaves school to her residence on Wednesday’s evening by the soldiers on duty
She was reportedly ordered into the mini-barracks located beside the Ikare-Akungba Akoko way around 6:00pm by the soldiers while her friends and other commuters were discharged.
However, the incident has led to confrontation between youths/students of the university and soldiers deployed to the area.
The timely intervention of the Army authorities, university’s management and Ondo state government calmed down the tension and possibly averted the violence the incident would have caused.
