A middle-aged resident of the state, Mrs. Rukayat Abdulrahmon has been arrested by the Osun State Police Command for allegedly killing her 3-year-old son, Ganiyu.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the suspect, Rukayat reportedly threw her only child into the well at their residence at Olorunosebi community of Kola Balogun, Osogbo on Sunday November 17.
According to Eyewitnesses report, she allegedly killed her son after her husband approached a Sharia Court for dissolution of their marriage.
The court reportedly gave the couple three months to resolve their differences, but the boy was killed five days to the expiration of the 90 days given.
Following the discovery of the corpse of the boy in the well by a tenant who wanted to fetch water for laundry, the police arrested his parents and other tenants.
Upon being interrogated, Rukayat reportedly confessed to killing her son to punish her husband who she doesn’t want to gain anything out of their marriage.
The 2 I/C spokesperson of Osun Police Command, Mustapha Ketayeyanjue confirmed the incident and further disclosed that the suspect is cooperating with the police.
