A retired principal and the Lay President of Methodist Church of Nigeria in Igbobini Diocese, Irele Local Government of Ondo State has been shot dead by unknown gunmen.
The deceased identified as Christopher Karigidi was shot dead in the early hours of Monday by the unknown gunmen who invaded his home in Ode Irele at about 3 am.
According to Eyewitnesses reports, the unknown gunmen left the scene of the incident without taking anything from his home which makes the identity of the gunmen either as assassins or armed robbers unclear.
While reacting on the incident, the Police Public Relations in the state, Mr Femi Joseph confirmed the incident and further added that investigation has commenced into the killing.
“We have begun an investigation into the matter and we will soon arrest those behind the ungodly acts,” Joseph stated.
He added that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue.
Meanwhile friends of the deceased have taken to Facebook to mourn his death.
