Tragedy strucks on Tuesday along Iwhrekpokpo road, Ughelli, Delta State following a gas explosion that burnt at least 6 persons and 10 shops in the area.
The explosion occurred at about 12pm and last for about 2hours.
The fire from the explosion engulfed shops in the area including a provision shop and a pharmacy in the area burning goods worth millions of naira.
Eyewitness account disclosed that the incident occurred when a gas shop owner was refilling a cylinder close to a spot where a woman was frying baked beans popularly known as Akara.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the cylinder which was apparently leaking, exploded as a result of the naked flame from the Akara seller.
It was reported that 10 shops were destroyed while 6 persons including passersby had been burnt as a result of the inferno.
it took the timely intervention of operators of a fuel station who came with a fire extinguisher to put the fire under control.
