BREAKING: INEC deregisters 74 parties, fixes dates for Edo, Ondo guber polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deregistered 74 political parties from participating in subsequent elections in the country.

Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, said the parties failed to meet constitutional requirements that determine the continuous existence of political parties in the country.

The Commission also announced September 19 as date for the governorship election in Edo state, and October 10 for that of Ondo state.
