Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has approved intervention funds for infrastructural development in Uzo-Uwani Local Council, Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka and Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.

The approval, according to the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, was in continuation of efforts by the state to advance development and increase the level of partnership with private and faith-based organisations towards enhancing good governance.

Aroh said the council approved N150m for upgrade of facilities at Bishop Shanahan hospital, and N100 million to Uzo-Uwani Local Government area, for further intervention along Nkpologu-Uvuru-Ukpatu-Adaba-Umuluokpa road.

The commissioner added that the council also approved N24 million to Uzo-Uwani LGA for the overhaul of the medical centre at Umulokpa, to enhance healthcare services.

The council equally appropriated N100m to Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, for the completion of the access road to its permanent site at Ugwuomu Nike, Enugu East Local Council.

This, according to him, is in addition to the N500m earlier approved and released to the university by Ugwuanyi’s administration for the construction of the road.

On security, Aroh said the governor, at the meeting of the State Executive Council (EXCO), signed the Enugu State Security Trust Fund bill recently passed by the State Assembly into Law.

The commissioner said following the signing of the bill, a management team would be established to manage the funds that would come from development partners and private sector for the enhancement of security in the state.

Aroh noted that the council had directed all owners of public buildings to install CCTV cameras within six months to further enhance the security architecture of the state.

Approvals were also given for forwarding of a bill to the State Assembly for the provision of Water and Sanitisation Law of Enugu State and the immediate recruitment of 20 Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) to enhance the work of the Vehicle Inspection Unit, under the State Ministry of Transport.
