The former Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, 11, on Thursday, failed to show up at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka convocation ceremony, where he was slated to be bestowed with an Honourary degree on Flak Management alongside other distinguished professionals.

Recall that Sanusi, was on Monday, dethroned as Emir by Kano state government over alleged insubordination.

At the convocation ceremony, Sanusi was neither sighted nor represented.

Other Honourary awardees of NAU were Chief Innocent Chukwuma, the Chairman of Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited, awarded Doctor of Industrial Engineering, and Chief Daniel Chukwudozie, the founder and managing director, Dossy Group, honoured with Doctor of Commerce.

Speaking at the occasion, the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, said the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) could not attend the programme due to some prevailing circumstances which himself (the VC) could not explain.

Esimone, who expressed optimism that Sanusi would be present to receive the award at their 2021 convocation ceremony, said the distinguished professionals were honoured owing to their steering contributions and impact in the society, areas of endeavours and the university community in particular.

The Vice-Chancellor, while stressing that the 14th Convocation ceremony for 2018/2019 session which also featured awards of Doctorate degrees to 1954 postgraduate diploma, 610 Masters, 339 Philosophy Degree and 7650 first degree students across her fourteen faculties, maintained that the university would never relent on its vision to become among the ten best universities in Africa and among the best 200 in the world.

Earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by the Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Rasheed Abubakar, said he was committed to the growth of university education especially through providing adequate manpower and good environment for effective teaching and learning.
