This is sad! A 62 years old woman has lost her life while struggling for coronavirus palliative shared by the  Rivers state government.

This sad incident reportedly happened  in Elele Kingdom, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers state.

According to Vanguard, the deceased, Mrs. Florence Onuobodo arrived at the venue with others waiting to receive the palliatives. A stampede ensued and she was trampled upon by others who were also struggling to collect the food items.

Aside Florence Onuobodo’s death, four other women including a 91 year old woman sustained varying degrees of injury during the stampede.

Commenting on the incident, the counsellor representing Elele, ward 4, at Ikwerre Local Government Area Legislative Assembly, Emmanuel Amadi, denied the allegation that the process for sharing the palliatives was poorly managed.

He said it was unfortunate that the deceased died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where she was rushed to.

May her soul rest in peace, Amen.
