The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday, met with President Muhammadu Buhari on how to resolve the diplomatic row between Nigeria and Ghana over alleged maltreatment of Nigerian nationals in Ghana.

The Speaker said that he briefed the president about meeting with the Speaker of the Ghanian parliament.

The relationship between the Nigerian government and government of Ghana has been strained over policy of Ghana said to be targeted towards Nigerian Nationals in Ghana.

Gbajabiamila in the tweet said he is keen about using “parliamentary diplomacy” to resolve the impasse.

“Met with Mr. President this afternoon to brief him that I would be meeting with the Speaker of the Ghanian Parliament tomorrow to further, explore ways of resolving the issues with our traders and strengthening our ties.

The Speaker on Tuesday got the blessings of President Muhammadu Buhari to travel to Ghana on what he called “Legislative Diplomacy”, over the closure of Nigerian shops in the west African country.

The visit will be part of efforts to sort out the diplomatic misunderstanding between Nigeria and Ghana.

He is expected to leave for the legislative Diplomacy on Wednesday.
