Plateau lead as Nigeria records 216 new cases of COVID-19, total hits 54,463

Nigeria records 404 new COVID-19 cases, total now 42,208

As Nigeria continues its fight against COVID-19, Plateau state lead with 59 new infections as 216 new cases of the deadly virus were recorded on Wednesday.

This was announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control via its official Twitter handle on Thursday.

According to NCDC, Nigeria has reached 54,463 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with Plateau State, the new epicentre of the virus, recording a drop in infections.

This is far lower than the 116 cases plateau state churned in on Tuesday and there was a drop in infections Nigeria recorded when compared to the 239 cases posted on Tuesday.

NCDC further revealed that the top five states with COVID-19 cases on Wednesday are: Plateau (59 cases), Rivers (27 cases), Abia (22 cases), Lagos (20 cases) and Oyo (18 cases).

Of the 15 states and FCT that recorded new cases, four of them are from the North (Plateau, Kaduna, FCT, Bauchi), while the rest are from the South.

Four deaths were recorded on Wednesday, taking the overall deaths to 1,027, with 42,439 survivors discharged so far.
