Edo 2020: Desmond Elliot knocks Obaseki; says nothing wrong with godfatherism
SHARE

Nigerian actor cum politician, Desmond Elliot, has come under fire following Godwin Obaseki’s re-election for second term as Edo governor.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls how Desmond Elliot berated Obaseki for adopting “Edo no be Lagos” as his re-election mantra, while describing his own political career as being a product of godfatherism.

On Sunday, Obaseki secured 307,955 votes across 18 local government areas while Osagie Ize-Iyamu, his main challenger and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 223,619.

Before his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on the platform of which he won, he had campaigned about ending political godfatherism, which he said was effective in Lagos but won’t be tolerated in Edo.

Shortly after Obaseki was declared winner of Edo poll, quite a number of Nigerians took to Twitter to call out the Nollywood star, while reiterating their mostly condemnatory comments towards his support for godfatherism.

“Tell Desmond Elliot that, in Edo state, we retire godfathers,” a user wrote.

“Desmond Elliot ought to be ashamed of the foolishness he came out to display not long ago. With the whole #EdoNoBeLagos conversation,” another user wrote.

Below are tweets portraying the reaction of Nigerians.

‘Godfatherism is good I’m a product of godfatherism’ – Desmond Elliot.

It might be good for Lagos but Edo people reject it. Carry Oshiomole join your Tinubu and keep them both to yourself in Lagos, #EdoNoBeLagos. #EdoDecides2020 pic.twitter.com/i3dzv6DW9O pic.twitter.com/gN1Y74ge49

Desmond Elliot ought to be ashamed of the foolishness he came out to display not long ago. With the whole #EdoNoBeLagos conversation.
It looks like once they become politicians, all sense of reasoning suddenly disappears.
Does Edo look like Lagos now?#EdoDecides

Edo people are the wicked set of peoples on the earth!

How dare you to disrespect the Jagaban of African and the leader of all democrats in Nigeria in such a humiliating manner?

Edo is not Lagos!

Obaseki is not Ambode!

Someone should tell @DesmondElliot_ that we'll come for him later. Let's finish with this robust victory celebration of Gov Godwin Obaseki first. pic.twitter.com/UZmd7cnIVk

As a Nigerian, Discussing politics with a Lagosian is the last thing you should do.

These people don’t know what politics is, Godfatherism is what they know.

You can ask Desmond Elliot if you think otherwise.
