Canada has become the second country after the UK to approve the Covid-19 vaccine.

This is coming after days UK announced that it began administering the COVID-19 vaccine making it the first country to approve Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine.

The country’s health regulator, Health Canada, made this known in a statement released via its website on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine was approved after a two-month independent review on safety and efficacy.

“Canadians should feel confident that the review of the vaccine was thoroughly done and that we equally have strong monitoring systems in place.

“Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada will closely monitor the safety of the vaccine once it is on the market and will not hesitate to take further action if any safety concerns are been identified.

“The immunization is, however, only approved for Canadians above the age of 16 for now could be recommended later to include children once more data is released from its the ongoing clinical trials,” the statement said.

Also, the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau had on Monday said that Canada would get up to 249,000 doses of the vaccine before the end of December, while 4 million doses of the vaccine are expected by March 2021.
