The Arewa Youth Federation, AYF have attacked online publication   Sahara Reporters over purported lies on the tenure elongation of Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu Abubakar.

AYF led by Comrade Adamu Kabir Matazu said Sahara Reporters have become notorious for spreading fake news in Nigeria.

” In the last few days, the media, especially online has been awashed with lies from Sahara Reporters, specifically targeted at the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu Abubakar.

The aim of this FAKE NEWS merchants is to maligned the hard earned reputation of the IG of Police, ridicule and label the entire administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as corrupt.

They also dishonestly reported that the IG of Police has paid over 2 Billion Naira to lobby for tenure extension, this is untrue, libellous, defamatory, lies from the pit of hell and a figment of their own imagination.

For the records, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu Abubakar is a distinguished Police Officer that has distinguished himself in his professional callings by dint of hard work which saw him rise through the curvy and sloppy path to greatness and the peak of his career in the Nigerian Police Force.

The confidence President Muhammadu Buhari has in Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, necessitated his appointment as the Inspector General of Police on the 15th of January, 2019. And his sterling leadership qualities and record of achievements in the last two years earned him a tenure extension, which is the prerogative of Mr. President.

By way of further doing the detractors of the government a favour, may we also remind them of some of the achievements of the IG of police in office:

(1). The launching of a security exercise codenamed Operation Puff Adder– a special proactive and intelligence-driven Police operation designed at reclaiming the landscape from criminals through the massive deployment of well-trained, well-equipped, and well-motivated personnel and operational assets especially in the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, Kogi, Katsina, Niger, and Zamfara States.

(2).  The IGP worked with state governors and other critical stakeholders to bring about the much needed Community Policing In his determination to fully engage the people in the successful policing of the country.

(3). IGP Adamu initiated and implemented an initiative aimed at mopping up illegal weapons across the country which led to the arrest of many transnational firearms/ammunitions syndicate.

(4). His successful conduct of the 2019 elections without hitches

(5). Giving priority attention to staff welfare and mobilizing international support to combat crimes and criminality.

(6) The last but not the least is his responsiveness towards immediately scrapping SARS when Nigerian Youths rise unison to demand for the dissolution of the dreaded outfit.

For these reasons and many more, we the Arewa Youth Federation, the Apex umbrella body of all Northern Youth Organizations are passing a Vote of Confidence on Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, the Inspector General of Police because we are sure of his capacity and capability to bring the needed reform to the Nigerian Police Force in line with the vision of the government of President Buhari.

From our findings, we discovered that the reason for the attacks on the IG of Police is simply because he refused to be corrupt and he is exposing corrupt elements in this government in line with the vision of President Buhari zero tolerance for corruption. The Inspector General of Police has done all within his power to expose corrupt elements in government who want to bring ridicule and shame to the adminstration of President Buhari.

We the Arewa Youth Federation hereby, call on the Inspector General of Police to stay focused, remain undeterred and not be distracted by the noise of those who are vehemently opposed to the anti-corruption fight of Mr. President.

As we appreciate and thank President Buhari for the confidence he has so far reposed on the IG of Police, we are also calling on Mr. President to disregard the allegations and campaign of calumny against the IG of Police and other government functionaries by Sahara Reporters because it has been proven time and time again that peddle falsehood and they are the No 1 FAKE NEWS merchants in Nigeria.

The detractors and publishers of Sahara Reporters are frustrated opposition who lost election in 2019 and are yet to recover from the shock of their loss and are hell-bent on causing chaos and havoc to achieve their aim of destabilizing the country through unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations against the IG of Police who is working very hard to deliver on the promises of Mr. President reform to Nigerians.

Their motive to cause unrest with their unsuccessful”Revolution Now” and EndSARS protests across the country didn’t work due to the foresight of the Inspector General of Police.

Finally, In addition to this campaign of calumny, there are clandestine plans which constitute threat to the peace and stability of this nation and we call on the authorities to beef more security around the Lekki Toll Gate area and hold these detractors responsible for anything that led to the breach of peace or breakdown of law and order in that part of the country” he said
