Barely three days into the new year, Nigerian celebrities are already making one thing clear. It’s that 2026 will not be the year of unsolicited opinions.

From body shaming to patronising comments and unnecessary “advice,” some netizens wasted no time testing the patience of public figures only to be firmly reminded that fame does not equal free access. Here are some of the celebrities who wasted no time clapping back.

1. YhemoLee Schools a Fan Over a DNA Comment

YhemoLee & family

Social media personality and self-styled nightlife king, YhemoLee had no patience for what many would describe as an intrusive and insensitive question. Following the first year birthday celebration photos of the hype man’s son, a fan took to his Snapchat to ask:

“Hope you already done DNA egbon? Cos I genuinely no wanna see you hurt, you love him so much.”

Without mincing words, YhemoLee fired back:

“😂😂😂😂😂

Oscar na your hurt?”

Short, sharp, and effective. His response immediately shut down the speculation, making it clear that certain topics especially around personal relationships are simply not open for public interrogation.

2. Timi Dakolo Defends Hard-Working LASTMA Officers

Timi Dakolo

Singer Timi Dakolo took to X (formerly Twitter) to appreciate LASTMA officers for their dedication during the festive season, writing:

“@followlastma officers Una wehdone… these guys have been working all round the clock this December 🙌🙌🙌”

However, a user, @misspinksy_, dismissed the gesture, replying:

“No offense but I hate when we do this thing. It’s like clapping for a fish for swimming.”

Dakolo did not let that slide. He responded bluntly:

“Shut up your stupid mouth. Do you work round the clock? Do you know how hard it is? Applaud people when they do an amazing job.”

His response sparked conversations around gratitude, labour, and why acknowledging people for simply “doing their jobs” still matters.

3. Onyi Alex Keeps It Sarcastic After Body-Shaming Comment

Onyi Alex

Actress Onyi Alex shared a video of herself looking fit and toned when a follower decided her body was up for public review, commenting:

“This doesn’t look sexy to me anymore, mo flesh at all, what I see is bones for a woman… nao add some skin to it.”

Rather than get defensive, Onyi responded with biting sarcasm:

“Okay mummy no vex, I will add weight.”

Her response subtly highlighted how absurd it is for strangers to feel entitled to dictate what women’s bodies should look like.

4. Tiwa Savage Reminds a Critic of Her Status

Tiwa Savage

After a video of Tiwa Savage riding on the back of a truck went viral, a follower, @marcussmth04, took a jab at her image, commenting:

“Omo Tiwa downgrading herself.”

Tiwa wasted no time reminding him exactly who he was talking to. She replied:

“@marcussmth04 mumu said downgrade… I went from a pick up truck to a Gulf Stream. Una no get respect for your elders. I get money pass your papa.”

The response, equal parts savage and iconic, quickly gained traction online, with many fans applauding her for shutting down classist assumptions.

5. Moyo Lawal Calmly Corrects a Ghanaian Critic

Moyo Lawal

Ghanaian pharmacist and social media user @richiedaworld commented on a video of actress Moyo Lawal, questioning her appearance and makeup:

“Now wey everywhere don calm… now judge this make-up urself. Shey e fine for your eyes?”

Moyo Lawal responded simply:

“I don’t have on makeup though.”

The clapback came against the backdrop of previous scrutiny about her appearance and skin tone, making her calm response even more pointed. See screenshot of their clap-backs below:

Final Thoughts

If the first few days of the year are anything to go by, celebrities are no longer easing into 2026 quietly. Whether through humour, sarcasm, or outright confrontation, they are drawing clear boundaries and reminding netizens that not every thought needs to be typed and posted.

It seems this year, the clapbacks are already fully loaded.
