This latest violent attack and deaths are the latest in an escalating onslaught and killings in Guma, where suspected armed herders have continued to unleash terror on hapless and defenceless villagers
Five family members have lost their lives after suspected rampaging herdsmen attacked the Guma local government in Benue State.
The assailants were said to have stormed Imande Dem settlement, located along Gbajimba Road in Uvir Council Ward, in the early hours of Tuesday, viciously attacking the locals.
Locals said the attack was carried out by suspected armed herdsmen who invaded the area. At the same time, the people had retired to their homes and were asleep, killing the woman identified as Mrs Utsuwa Chicha, and her three sons. A teenage boy from the family reportedly survived the attack but suffered gunshot wounds.
He was reportedly rushed to a hospital, where doctors carried out emergency surgery to remove bullets from his body.
It was gathered that the woman’s husband had been killed in an earlier attack, leaving the family already susceptible before this latest tragedy.
The victims’ bodies were later evacuated through a combined effort by security operatives and residents, while the injured child remains under medical care.
This latest attack and deaths are the latest in an escalating violent onslaught and killings in Guma, where suspected armed herders have continued to unleash terror on hapless and defenceless villagers, deepening anxiety among locals.
Neither the state government nor the security agencies have issued a statement regarding the incident as of the time of this report’s filing.
