Chelsea thanked him for his time at the club and extolled him for conducting himself with utmost professionalism and integrity throughout his stay.

Chelsea head coach, Liam Rosenior, has been sacked by the West London club following a string of deplorable performances that saw the club lose five consecutive games without scoring.

Recent results have also made the possibility and likelihood of participating in next year’s Champions League an arduous task and a near-impossible reality.

Rosenior’s dismissal came just after four months at the club with Under-21’s boss Calum McFarlane to take interim charge of the team until the end of the season

The club announced the sacking of Rosenior in a statement on Wednesday, citing recent results and performances of the team which were far below the standards the club wanted.

Chelsea thanked him for his time at the club and extolled him for conducting himself with utmost professionalism and integrity throughout his stay.

The statement reads: “Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Liam Rosenior.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

“Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season.

“This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future.”

A list of potential replacements has already been drawn up with current managers of two English clubs topping the list.

According to BBC Sport, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, Fulham head coach Marco Silva and former Dortmund boss Edin Terzic are under consideration as possible replacements for Rosenior.

Iraola, 43, announced last week that he will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, while Silva’s contract at rivals Fulham is due to expire in July. Terzic, meanwhile, was under consideration by Tottenham to replace Thomas Frank when the Dane was sacked earlier this season.
