Nigerians have once again been thrown into fear and sadness following the shocking abduction of students and teachers in Ogbomosho, Oyo State. What started as another kidnapping case has now turned even more heartbreaking after reports confirmed that one of the abducted teachers was killed.
For many people, the tragedy feels painfully close to home. It has become a reminder that insecurity is no longer something happening “far away” to other people. Many Nigerians now feel that no place is truly safe anymore.
As the disturbing details spread online, several celebrities and public figures took to social media to express anger, sadness, and frustration over the situation.
Here are the details of the Ogbomosho tragedy and how celebrities reacted to the heartbreaking news.
The Ogbomoso School Raid: A Coordinated Attack
The attack happened on Friday morning, May 15, 2026, in communities within Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Around 9:30 a.m., armed bandits reportedly attacked three schools at almost the same time. The schools affected were Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele.
What started as a normal school day quickly turned into panic, gunfire and confusion.
During the attack, the gunmen reportedly shot at people who tried to resist or raise an alarm. An assistant headmaster, identified as Mr. Adesiyan, was killed during the raid. An okada rider was also reportedly shot dead after the attackers forcefully took motorcycles to move their captives into the bush.
By the end of the attack, dozens of students, teachers, and other residents had been taken away, leaving the affected communities in fear and confusion.
The Captivity Nightmare: Hostage Videos and Execution
As more details emerged, the full scale of the abduction became clearer. Reports said at least 46 people, including 39 schoolchildren, 6 teachers, and a female principal, were taken into the forest by the attackers.
Days later, videos of some of the captives began circulating online. In the emotional clips, Mrs. Alamu F.R., the principal of Community High School, and a church worker carrying a crying baby pleaded for help. They called on President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to intervene before things got worse.
Sadly, the situation later took a more painful turn.
On Monday, May 18, 2026, Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher, had been killed by the bandits while in captivity.
The news sent shockwaves across social media, especially as many students and other victims are still reportedly missing inside the forest.
