At least eight farmers have reportedly been killed by rampaging gunmen, suspected to be terrorists wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region, in a renewed wave of attacks in Plateau state on Sunday night.
Several other villagers were injured in the attack on Kawel village, Mushere District of Bokkos LGA of the state.
Christopher Luka, Bokkos Youth Leader, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday, disclosed that the attack occurred around 11:30 p.m on Sunday.
Luka said his a member of the youth council who sent out a distress call at midnight on Monday about the invasion.
“A youth leader called around 12 a.m. that gunmen attacked the community and shot over 20 people, so 18 were confirmed dead” Luka told Daily Trust.
He further explained that as soon as he was informed of the attack, he reported the matter to security personnel stationed in Bokkos.
“I called the security and they confirmed to me that they had been alerted and were on their way to the attacked community,” he said.
The youth leader said the attack was unprovoked and implored the security forces to take decisive action to arrest the situation before it escalates.

The attack came less than five days after the District Head of Gwande in the same Bokkos LGA, Saf Samuel Alaket, was killed in an ambush along the Sha District axis bordering Daffo community.
The deceased was returning home after a traditional council meeting when he ran into the ambush.
