P-Square: Peter Okoye explains how 2021 reunion triggered his ongoing feud with twin brother Rudeboy

Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the now-disbanded P-Square music duo, has once again addressed two of the recent controversies surrounding him, his recent comments about Nigerian languages and his fallout with his twin brother, Paul Okoye, better known as Rudeboy.

During an Instagram Live session on Thursday, July 30, 2026, which he described as “Part One” of his explanation, the singer attempted to clear the air over the backlash generated by his recent remarks questioning the practical benefits of Nigerian languages, while also giving what he called the real story behind the latest breakdown in his relationship with Rudeboy.

The live session comes just days after Mr P sparked heated debate on social media with his response to critics who questioned whether his children could speak Igbo after he celebrated their fluency in French. In response, the singer wrote, “And who Naija language help? Make I hear word abeg,” a statement that drew widespread criticism from many Nigerians who argued that indigenous languages remain central to cultural identity and heritage.

Addressing that controversy during the livestream, Mr P insisted that many people misunderstood his comments and maintained that his words had been taken out of context.

However, a significant portion of the livestream focused on his long-running family crisis involving Rudeboy and their elder brother, Jude Okoye.

Responding to accusations from fans that he is always the one instigating conflict within the family, Peter firmly rejected the narrative.

According to him, despite years of public disagreements, he has never gone on social media or live broadcasts to insult or publicly attack either Rudeboy or Jude Okoye.

To support his claim, Mr P played several old video clips from interviews in which Rudeboy allegedly spoke negatively about him. According to Peter, the recordings showed his twin brother repeatedly claiming that he handled the majority of P-Square’s singing during their time together.

Mr P argued that these interviews demonstrated that he has largely remained silent publicly while allowing his brothers to shape public opinion about their disagreements.

The singer then traced what he described as the true beginning of their latest dispute.

According to Peter, the issues date back to November 17, 2021, the same day news of P-Square’s much-celebrated reunion broke across the internet.

Contrary to public perception that the reconciliation marked a complete resolution of their differences, Mr P claimed the reunion was not what many fans believed it to be.

He alleged that in the early hours of that day, around 4 a.m., Rudeboy unexpectedly arrived at his residence while he was away on a private jet returning from an event.

Peter claimed that only his wife, Lola Omotayo-Okoye, was at home at the time. According to Mr P, Lola became startled by the unexpected visit before Rudeboy allegedly knelt before her, repeatedly saying, “I am tired… I am tired.”

Peter said he was later informed that the visit was intended as an apology and a step toward reconciliation. He explained that several acquaintances encouraged him to accept the peace gesture, after which the brothers eventually met, embraced each other and were later joined by their elder brother, Jude Okoye.

Despite that reconciliation, Peter claimed he remained cautious. According to him, Rudeboy immediately wanted the duo to resume performing as P-Square, but he declined because he believed rebuilding their personal relationship as brothers should come before reviving their business partnership.

Mr P alleged that their motivations differed from the beginning. He claimed his own priority was restoring family ties, whereas Rudeboy was primarily interested in bringing back the P-Square brand for music business purposes.

To reinforce his position, Peter displayed another video during the livestream which, according to him, showed Rudeboy publicly campaigning for a P-Square comeback. He argued that the footage contradicts claims that he was the one pushing hardest for the group’s reunion.

The latest livestream adds another chapter to one of Nigerian entertainment’s longest-running family feuds, with fans now awaiting the promised Part Two of Peter Okoye’s explanation to see whether he provides further evidence or addresses additional claims surrounding the ongoing dispute.
