On August 8, 2011, gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram attacked Bisichi village in Plateau State, killing five people and injuring four others.

It was learnt that the gunmen struck after dark and escaped before security forces arrived.

Survivors said the victims were attacked with machetes, and the bodies were left with multiple machete wounds.

“Five persons were confirmed dead and four others sustained injuries in the attack on Bisichi village. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital,” a Plateau State police spokesperson said Tuesday.

In a separate incident the same day, Boko Haram gunmen killed two people in Maiduguri, Borno State. Security sources said the victims were a senior prison official and a school teacher.

Since 2009, Boko Haram has carried out a series of targeted killings in Maiduguri as part of its insurgency in northeastern Nigeria. The group has frequently targeted government workers, teachers, and security personnel.
