The Big Brother Naija Season 11 house has recorded its first major exits, with Martins Iyeh and Ijeoma “Mercedes” Emi becoming the first two housemates evicted from the competition.
The double departure took place on Sunday, August 9, 2026, bringing an end to the season’s opening stretch without a genuine eviction and immediately changing the dynamics inside the “Show Ya Sef” house.
Martins became the first housemate to leave after spending two weeks in the competition. His exit was particularly striking because it came on his birthday, turning what should have been a celebratory day into an unexpected farewell from the reality show.
The 30-year-old creative director, visual storyteller and model from Kogi State had been among the 24 contestants who entered the house when Season 11 began on July 26. His departure makes him the first contestant to officially bow out of the season through the regular eviction process.
Shortly after Martins’ departure was announced, Mercedes was confirmed as the second housemate to leave.
Mercedes, whose real name is Ijeoma Emi, entered the competition as a self-employed performance artist and massage therapist from Delta State. Her time in the house was marked by an energetic personality and several memorable moments, but that was not enough to secure her a place beyond the first eviction night.
The voting figures displayed during the live show provided a glimpse into the race among the housemates at the bottom of the voting table. Keivo recorded 2.8 per cent, Mercedes received 2.3 per cent, while Martins had 1.6 per cent of the votes shown. Martins therefore recorded the lowest percentage among the three contestants displayed on the chart, with Mercedes also falling within the group that failed to secure enough public support to continue in the competition.
The two exits came after a complicated second week in which a large number of housemates were exposed to the possibility of eviction.
Earlier in the week, 16 housemates were listed as facing possible eviction after Head of House Sheba exercised her power to save Chimsom Chuka and replace him with Cassi. Aikou and Flora, meanwhile, remained protected under the season’s controversial Gambit twist.
The Gambit twist has already altered the traditional BBNaija format. Aikou and Flora secured protection from eviction and automatic places in the finale, but they became ineligible to win the ₦160 million grand prize. The arrangement has generated debate among viewers, with some questioning whether the new format gives the Gambits an advantage over the other contestants.
With Martins and Mercedes now gone, the remaining housemates face a considerably tougher competition. The first real eviction has demonstrated that early visibility, relationships inside the house and individual performances do not necessarily guarantee survival.
For Martins, the timing of the exit adds another layer to an already dramatic eviction. He left the competition on his 30th birthday, after entering the house with the hopes of building a strong enough profile to remain in contention for the season’s grand prize.
Mercedes’ exit also raises questions about how viewers are responding to the personalities that have emerged during the opening weeks. Her departure shows that a housemate can remain active in the show’s storyline and still struggle to translate that visibility into enough public support.
The first eviction night therefore does more than remove two contestants. It marks the point at which the Season 11 race begins to take a sharper competitive turn.
Twenty-four housemates entered the competition at launch. With Martins and Mercedes now out, the field has been reduced, while Aikou and Flora continue under their special Gambit status.
