Are you back from retirement? – Bishop Thomas Aremu quizzed on return after Oyedepo’s directive to step down

Bishop Thomas Aremu and Oyedepo

Amid growing speculation surrounding his status in the ministry, Bishop Thomas Aremu, one of the top senior pastors of Winners Chapel (Living Faith Church), has finally addressed the widespread talks about his retirement — following an earlier restructuring by Bishop David Oyedepo, the church’s founder.

In a new interview with Eminent Church, Bishop Aremu stated unequivocally that despite being among the notable names officially retired by Oyedepo during the high-profile leadership transition within the ministry, he has never truly stepped away from his divine calling.

Speaking on the matter, Aremu explained that he has remained deeply committed to church activities, attending programmes and contributing to the spiritual growth of the ministry.

His remarks come months after Bishop Oyedepo reportedly relieved several top senior pastors of their leadership duties, a move that sparked intense speculation within Nigerian church circles and across Pentecostal communities worldwide. At the time, the church stated that the retirement move was in line with generational transitions and leadership restructuring.

However, Bishop Aremu’s visible presence at recent church programmes, including major conferences and regional events, has led to a renewed conversation about his position within the ministry. Many members and observers wondered if he had been quietly reinstated — or perhaps never truly stepped down in the spiritual sense.

By choosing to speak now, Aremu appears to be setting the record straight, reminding the faithful that spiritual callings don’t expire with official titles.

His remarks have since stirred both admiration and deeper reflection on the dynamics of leadership within mega ministries like Winners Chapel.
