Hon. Akeem Balogun, representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency has been elected the new deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly.

Balogun is replacing Hon. Dare Kadiri of Ijebu-North II State Constituency, who was impeached on Thursday.

He was elected after his nomination by Hon. Solomon Osho, seconded by his Abayomi Fasuwa and was unanimously supported by other lawmakers at the Tuesday plenary, which was presided by the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Recall that the impeached deputy speaker, Kadiri was accused of insubordination to the Office of the Speaker through un-authorised self-approval of expenditure, involving an external body in the affairs of the House without exploring an internal mechanism for the amicable resolution of issues, abuse of office, threat to lives and properties, conduct likely to cause breach of peace and attempted murder, committed in his constituency.

The committee on thereafter submitted its report which found Mr Kadiri guilty of gross misconduct and he was impeached and removed as the deputy speaker.

Meanwhile, the impeached Deputy Speaker, Kadiri has threatened to challenge his removal in court.
