A vigilante group has allegedly killed two persons over ban on nightclub activities in Ogaminana community, Adavi local government area of Kogi State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Friday night, July 23, when the vigilante men raided a nightclub at a popular hotel.
According to Nigerian Tribune, an eyewitness stated that the clash with the clubbers escalated into shooting three youths including the hotel manager.
Two of the clubbers including one identified as Muhammed, reportedly died on the spot while one escaped by the whiskers and is receiving treatment in the hospital.
The Chairman of Adavi local government, Hon. Joseph Salami, who confirmed the incident on Saturday said, “The Vigilante group were on their usual night patrol and working according to the laid down rules by the Local Government Authority on the ban of nightclub activities within her domain.
“The clash led to the loss of two lives, an officer of the Vigilante group sustaining an injury, and their vehicle was destroyed.” he said.
Salami advised the bereaved families and youths not to take laws into their hands as he prayed for the departed souls and comfort for the families of the deceased.
“First, we had placed a ban on nightclub activities but as it is expected of us, we will take a critical look at the issue, investigate the genesis of it, and make sure whoever is involved is brought to book. As we all know, nobody is above the law, therefore, no stone shall be left unturned in the course of our investigation. There’s no cause for alarm,” he added.
