A female student of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has been reported dead after drinking an insecticide suspected to be Sniper.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the dead student was said to have taken the substance alongside a male colleague, who is in a critical condition at the moment.

Witnesses said the couple were engaged in a sex romp and, after the lady lost her life, her lover, a fellow student, ingested the insecticide, Sniper, and lost consciousness. They were suspected to had done drugs.

It was gathered that the deceased was a 200-level student identified as Awojeji Itunuoluwa from the Department of Library and Information Science, while the male student was identified as Zion Elisha, also a 200 level student of the Department of Mathematics.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday at a private hostel.

The deceased was said to have visited the male student in order to study together.

However, when she failed to return to her hostel, her roommates decided to check her in the male student’s room to ascertain what the situation was.

They were reportedly horrified afterward, when they saw their colleague’s lifeless body lying on the floor, even as the male student gasped for air.

The duo were rushed to TASUED medical facility, where Itunuoluwa was confirmed dead on arrival.

TASUED Acting Public Relations Officer, Ayotunde Odubela, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday.

Odubela said the management got wind of the incident when the two were brought to the school health centre.

“We just know that they were brought into the school health centre yesterday (Sunday).

“They referred the two of them to general hospital Ijebu-Ode and it was confirmed that the girl was brought in dead, but the guy was in a very critical condition. The guy was referred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, OOUTH, Sagamu.

“But, before getting to the OOUTH, we learnt that they branched at Babcock University Teaching Hospital where the male student was admitted to the Accident and Emergency ward. That is the much we know,” he said.

Odubela added that the school had started an investigation to find out what really happened.

“The university has a security unit, they are already carrying out an independent investigation on the matter to find out what really happened.”
