Members of Boko Haram/ISWAP on Thursday reportedly attacked the military Super Camp at Ngamdu in Borno State.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the incident caused residents of Ngamdu to flee to neighbouring villages in Yobe while others ran to the bush for safety.

An eyewitness, one of the drivers along the Maiduguri/Damaturu highway where the super camp is situated, Modu Ngamdu revealed that passengers coming from Maiduguri and Damaturu were stranded in the attack that lasted for more than an hour.

According to the driver, the exchange of gunfire between the soldiers and the insurgents made many residents to run to some villagers in Yobe and others run to the bush.

Modu however stated that the insurgents did not come to the town but focused their attack on the military Super Camp.

He added that the fight lasted for some time before they sighted an Air Force jet that repelled the insurgents.

“As earlier as 1pm, we heard the sound of heavy gunshot around the Super Camp where the military are staying.

“The exchange of fire and the sound of gunshot made many people in town to run towards Yobe but they did not come to the town. No civilian was attacked.

“We continue to hear the sound of the gunshots until a fighter jet came and bombarded them,” Ngamdu said.

A security source revealed that the insurgents came from Goniri road from the south eastern direction of the camp.

The source revealed that an unspecified number of the insurgents were killed.

The source added that one of the soldiers paid the supreme price
