The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state chapter has criticised and strongly condemned the barbaric and unprovoked attack on Njaba Council of Traditional Rulers of Imo State.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the monarchs were attacked while having their routine town hall meeting with the Interim Management Committee chairman of the area on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by Cajetan Duke, the Publicity Secretary of the ruling party, the APC chairman in Imo state, Hon. Macdonald Kelechi Ebere described the attack which claimed two monarchs in the area as regrettable.

The statement reads: “The sad and mindless attack which led to the untimely death of two prominent and highly revered traditional rulers in the state, Eze E.A Duruebure and Eze Sampson Osunwa of Okwudor and Ihebinowere autonomous communities respectively, and leaving many others severely wounded, will for a long time to come to remain an unpardonable assault on the collective psyche of our people.

“While we join the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma in the condemnation of this heinous and dastardly act, we call on all relevant security agencies in the state to rise up to recent security challenges in the state, particularly in the area of intelligence gathering and rapid response approach.

“Piqued by the provocative desecration of our land with violent killings of innocent citizens, particularly the sacrilegious murder of our traditional rulers, our party throws its total support to the state government and all relevant security agencies in their best security arrangement and effort to bring the perpetrators and their sponsors and enablers to face the full wrath of the law.

“While our party has observed with great concern the silence of the political oppositions in the face of these reckless attacks on innocent citizens of the state, we are further worried that the same opposition will not hesitate to rise in critic against government and security agencies in their lawful efforts to bring perpetrators of violent crimes to book. Opposition without conscience is a dangerous threat to democracy and humanity.

“The party however expresses sincere condolence to the IMC Chairman, the good and resilient people of Njaba on the death of their esteemed traditional rulers and particularly the immediate bereaved royal families, while praying for the repose of the departed.”
