Four killed, 3 injured as indigenes and herdsmen clash in Kaduna

Four persons have been killed and three others injured as herdsmen and residents of Jankasa clashed in the Zango-Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The state Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, made this known in a statement on Monday, identified the deceased as Luka Nelson, Timothy Koni, Pasi Peter and George Frances.

Aruwan said the three who sustained gunshot injuries during the fracas – Daniel Dauda, Extra James and Henry Frances are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The commissioner also said 13 cows were slaughtered, while 25 cows were recovered by military troops.

He said, “The military and police authorities have reported to the Kaduna State Government that four people were killed and three others injured during a clash between locals and some herders in Jankasa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

“According to reports, the clash occurred along some cattle routes in the area, and then escalated into a fire-fight between the two groups, before security forces arrived to bring the situation under control.

“Further to this, security agencies reported that unknown gunmen attacked some settled herders at Manchok, Kaura LGA. The security agencies reported that this was an apparent reprisal for the initial clash.”

He said the state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was sad about the incident and prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed.
