Chairman of Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti, Sola Olominu has declared that a task force committee will be set up to arrest individuals engaging in Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the communities.

This was declared by Olominu in an interview with newsmen in Ikole Ekiti.

He cautioned communities midwives, traditional midwives and women in maternity homes not to engage in Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on female children.
The chairman said that any of the  midwives caught in the act would be arrested and the parents of the female child would also be punished.
“I wish to declare that henceforth any midwives in Ikole Local Government area caught engaging in FGM will be arrested to face the wrath of the law.
“It is a punishable offence in Ekiti and persons and parents caught in the act will be sent to jail for two years.
“We will start engaging our people in communities to be vigilant and anybody caught will be reported to the nearest police station for prosecution.
“We want to eradicate FGM in our communities and it can only be possible if the local government and residents of the communities work together to fight against such a barbaric, unethical and ungodly act,” he said.
Olominu charged parents and community leaders to desist from engaging in FGM.
He said that the psychological trauma that the singular act has been causing in the lives of girls in our society is not good,” he added.
