Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship election in 2023.

The Minister who announced his desire to compete for Kebbi State Governor informed Vanguard that he has withdrawn from the contest to succeed Governor Atiku Bagudu.

On Saturday, Malami verified the news.

He said, “I have not resigned as the Attorney General of the Federation but have only withdrawn from the Kebbi governorship race,” he said in a text message.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that Buhari had on Wednesday ordered all Ministers with political ambitions to resign.

The President instructed his ministers and appointments with political ambitions to quit on or before May 16 during the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting.

Buhari’s directive was in line with the provisions of Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act which states that: “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.”

Also, Buhari on Friday met outgoing ministers at the State House.

Ministers at the meeting are Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment; Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation; Paulen Tallen, Minister of Women Affairs, and Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
