The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to prosecute politicians and those involved in vote-buying in the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election.

The call was made on Saturday by the group via its Twitter page, asking that all politicians involved in electoral bribery be brought to book.

This is coming amid reports that incidences of vote-buying have been recorded in many polling centres in the ongoing governorship election in Ekiti.

Reacting to the reports, SERAP said, “BREAKING: #EkitiDecides2022: We’re suing to compel INEC to prosecute anyone suspected to be responsible for vote-buying and electoral bribery in Ekiti State and the politicians who sent them.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had arrested persons suspected to be engaged in vote-buying in the ongoing Ekiti State governorship poll.

According to Channels Television, some of the suspects were paraded at the Oke Ori Omi Area, the Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

The suspects were reported to have been caught with monies allegedly used for vote-buying.

Some other persons were also arrested at a private residence with a book containing details of voters of certain voting areas, according to Channels Television.
