Out of the 3,068 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of the 2021 Batch B Stream 1, deployed to Osun State, 5 have had their service year extended while 8 others are said to have absconded.

The Corps members had their service year extended over the contravention of the NYSC bye-laws.

The Osun NYSC State Coordinator, Abdulwahab Olayinka made this known in her address at the passing out ceremony of the Corps members at the permanent orientation camp, Ede, on Thursday.

Abdulwahab who congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their one-year mandatory service to the nation charged them to hit the ground running and put into practice what they learned when they start their careers.

She also enjoined the corps members to inculcate the tradition of discipline, hard work, and self-reliance that they have learnt in the scheme.

“I urge you never to compromise your integrity and virtues as rest is only sweet after you have laboured.

“The current situation demands that you put into use creative thinking and individual initiative. Focus more on self-employment. Resolve in your mind to try your hands on productive ventures as a means of earning a decent living in society. As you go, please carry on this mindset as the key to financial independence lies in your hands.

“As you disengage from service today, I urge you to allow the useful lessons of the dignity of labour, self-reliance, selfless service and peaceful co-existence that you have imbibed in the past year to be your guiding principle for the rest of your lives. In the pursuit of your life goals and careers, maintain a good image of yourself. Make discipline and transparency your watchword.

The State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, while congratulating them on the completion of their service year also saluted the courage, enthusiasm and doggedness exhibited by the corps members throughout their one-year service to the nation.

Represented by Wole Oyebamiji, the Secretary to the State Government, charged the corps members to continue to radiate the capability and readiness to put in their best for the nation.

The Governor said, “Your comportment, conduct and interaction with yourselves and the good people of Osun State within this one year are highly commendable and mark you out as patriotic citizens who are ready to carry the dreams and aspirations of our Nation for a better and greater tomorrow.”
