The Standards Organisation of Nigeria, (SON) has said incompetency and substandard materials applied to minimise cost of production caused the building collapse that occurred on Thursday at Awosika, Bodija, Ibadan.

SON Oyo coordinator, Adetoye Adeyinka, while reacting after he and his team examined the cause, called on builders to always patronise quality materials with the approval of MANCAP.

He urged contractors to always reach out to relevant and certified agencies for sensitisation and advice on how to go about construction of standard storey building.

The five storey building, which was said to be an hotel, caved in at Awosika area, Ibadan North Local Government Area.
