Police officers from the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) conducted a raid on an unauthorized petroleum refining facility in the state of Edo.

This information was released on Sunday by the Force’s public relations officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who said it came about as a result of a whistleblower’s interception of intelligence on an alleged illegal petroleum product refining syndicate operating close to Agbor Junction in Benin City, Edo State.

According to the statement, the police found 31 immobile surface tanks, 7 of which were loaded with an unspecified amount of petroleum products, and three empty DAF trucks.

Adejobi said two suspects, one Chinedu Iyanabor, aged 18, and Sunday Iyagbesun, aged 52, were also arrested during the raid.

He said all suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
