Police kill kidnappers sharing ransom in Kwara forest

Two suspected kidnappers were killed by the police during a gun duel inside a forest in Moro LGA of in Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the police accosted the kidnappers in the bush while they were sharing the ransom collected for the abduction of one Afusat Lawal and her son, Taofeek.

It was gathered that the victims are the wife and son of an APC House of Assembly candidate, Hon Lawal Ayansola Saliu, popularly known as LAS.

The State Police Spokesperson, Ajayi Okasanmi, said, “The kidnappers were accosted in the bush by the command’s tactical team, supported by vigilantes and hunters, while sharing the ransom collected from the family of the victims.

“They opened fire on the operatives immediately they were sighted. During exchange of fire, two of them that suffered gunshot injuries were arrested and taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) where they were confirmed dead.”

The PPRO added a Honda Accord with Reg No: Lagos GJ 52 LSR, a single-barrel gun and money were recovered from them.

Okasanmi said effort was on to get the fleeing members of the gang arrested.
