Ekiti govt announces cause of Speaker Afuye’s death

The Ekiti State Government has confirmed the death of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye.

The lawmaker, who was 66, passed away on Wednesday. He represented Ikere constituency 1.

The Governor’s chief press secretary, Yinka Oyebode, released a statement on Wednesday evening.

The spokesperson expressed sadness on behalf of the state government over Afuye’s passing.

“Rt. Hon Afuye died Wednesday evening at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest,” he said.

The deceased was a former Commissioner of Information and a two-time member of the State Legislature.

Afuye assumed office as Speaker of the sixth Assembly on June 6, 2019.
