Two brothers, Kingsley, 19, and Elisha Gyang, were sentenced to one month in prison by an Area Court on Wednesday for stealing a water pumping machine worth N80,000.

Following their admission of guilt to conspiracy and theft, the defendants were sentenced by a panel of judges that included Malam Sadiq Adam and Mr. Hyacenth Dolnanan.

The Gyang brothers pleaded for mercy from the judge.

Meanwhile, the judges gave the convicts an option of a N10,000 fine.

In addition, the brothers were ordered to pay compensation of N80,000 to the complainant.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gowkat told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo Jos Police station on July 3, by Mr Moses Matthew.

He said that the Gyang brothers trespassed into the complainant’s building site and stole a water pumping machine.

Furthermore, the prosecutor told the court that the accused persons confessed to having stolen the water pumping machine during police interrogation.

According to him, the offence contravened the provisions of sections 59 and 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
