Director with the Commodity Board in Sokoto State, Hassan Bello, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment over N1.32 million job scam.

Bello collected the sum of N1.32 million from Aliyu Adamu-Tsaki, Yusuf Abubakar, Yahaya Salihu and 43 others under the pretence of securing jobs for them with the board.

The victims were said to have reported the matter to the Economic and financial crime commission when they realised they had been scammed by the convict.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, later took up the matter and it came up for hearing at a Federal High Court in Sokoto on Wednesday.

Judge Ahmad Mahmud sentenced the Director but gave him an option of N100,000 fine, following the guilty plea entered by the convict during the hearing.

The judge also directed him to pay restitution of N850,000 to the victims through the EFCC, adding that the court should be notified of the payment.

The court added that failure to pay the restitution within six months would earn him two years imprisonment.

The judge however directed the convict to enter into an undertaking to be of good behaviour.
