The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Commandant, Sunday Agboola has given a marching order to its anti-vandal squad to routinely monitor activities of filling stations.
The commandant stated that the monitoring of activities of fuel stations especially those suspected of hoarding Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) is in line with the core mandate of the corps which is to curtail the activities of illegal dealers in petroleum products.
Agboola in a statement signed by Adeleke Kehinde, the Osun Command acting Public Relations Officer, stated that he is making frantic efforts to ensure that all filling stations involved in the hoarding of premium motor spirit which has led to scarcity in the state would face the full wrath of the law.
Long queues have resurfaced in fuel stations in Osun, especially in Osogbo, the state capital and motorists have reported an increase in pump price to N300 per litre.
According to him: “It is a known fact that there is a shortage of fuel supply in the country, notwithstanding, filling stations should not use the opportunity to bring untold hardship on citizens.
“We have our plainclothes operatives who are on surveillance in all the stations in the state and this will continue until sanity returns to the system.”
He appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the corps by reporting filling stations that are still hoarding the product for necessary action.
