The Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court heard evidence on Wednesday that cocoa farmer Otun Anayor defrauded his partner of N225,000.

Mr. Anayor has been accused of stealing and cheating by the police.

According to prosecutor Emmanuel Abdullahi, the defendant broke the law on September 15, 2022, in Saga Otun Village, via Ile-Ife.

Adebisi Busayo gave the defendant her cocoa farm in exchange for a promise from him to give her 200 kg of dried cocoa beans, according to Mr. Abdullahi.

According to him, the defendant only gave Ms. Adebisi 50 kg of the remaining 150 kg of cocoa beans, which were worth N225,000.

The prosecutor added that the offence contravened Sections 390 and 421 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two counts’ charge of cheating and stealing.

Defence counsel Okoh Wonder applied for bail of the defendant in the most liberal term.

Mr Wonder promised that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable surety.

Magistrate A.O. Famuyide, however, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100, 000 with one reliable surety.

Ms Famuyide said that the surety must swear an affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and be a building owner with N50,000 recognisances.

She then adjourned the case until January 6 for hearing.
