2023: INEC Bars Politicians’ Cronies As Ad Hoc Staff

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has put in place measures to prevent political cronies from being employed as ad hoc staff for the 2023 general elections, according to Amb. Rufus Akeju, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State.

He made this statement while describing the commission’s preparations for the 2023 general elections to reporters at the state offices of the commission in Alagbaka, Akure.

According to him, “INECPRES which is saddled with the recruitment of Ad-hoc personnel comprising of RAC Managers, RA Techs, SPOs, and POs/APOs for the Elections have opened a public portal where interested and qualified members of the public can apply. More so, availability check E-mails have been sent to all the applicants to ascertain their readiness for the job.”

The REC also disclosed that more polling units have been created in the state for easy access to the electorate and for the commission to serve the people better.

He said: “The capturing of coordinates as well as the proper positioning of the Polling Units in the appropriate locations and addresses where it can best serve the Voters was done with the use of UTM Geo Map App.

“In view of this, in Ondo State, we are having a total number of three thousand, nine hundred and thirty-three (3,933) polling units.”

The REC revealed that the commission has taken delivery of the following sensitive and non-sensitive materials in readiness for the 2023 elections.

According to him, “The following sensitive and non-sensitive election materials have so far been taken delivery of in Ondo State. BVAS = 3,933, Ballot Boxes = 5,329, Sleeping Mats = 23,598, Gum = 4,130 and Voting Cubicles = 2,224.

Amb. Akeju, therefore, implored the people of the state to go to their various wards to collect their PVCs so that they can participate in the election process.
