Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have arrested one, Bemdoo Atoba, for allegedly burning down a block of classrooms at a school in the Gwer East Local Government Area of the state.

The arsonist allegedly burnt down the block at RCM Primary School, Moi-Igbo, Mbalom, Gwer East, after stealing a computer from the school.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident in a message, said, “Incident confirmed. The suspect is in custody and investigation is ongoing.”

The Head Teacher of the school, Mr Timothy Ukurodu, said Oraduen, who was known for criminal activities in the community, allegedly burgled the school, went away with a computer and burn down the block to make it seem the computer got burnt with other equipment.

“But he was traced by the youth and caught with the computer system,” he added.

The Executive Chairman, Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, Joseph Utse, who was visibly angry, noted that while education is necessary in the development of every society, the burning of the school was a demonstration that the community was not ready for both education and development.

The SUBEB boss challenged the youth to desist from criminal acts and advised parents to train their children in good morals.
