Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo, was noticeably missing from Thursday’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign rally in Ibadan, the state’s capital.
The party’s national leadership attended the gathering at the historic Mapo Hall.
Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, was accompanied by Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Ifeanyi Okowa’s running mate, and the governors of Sokoto, Ademola Adeleke, Godwin Obaseki, and Edo (Akwa Ibom).
Makinde is a member of the G-5 demanding the resignation of PDP national chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu as a condition to support Atiku’s presidential ambition.
Recall that Makinde is one of the aggrieved five governors of the PDP otherwise called G-5 or Integrity Group, who are at loggerheads with the party’s national leadership over the continued stay of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the PDP since the emergence of Atiku as the presidential candidate.
Oyo State is the first G-5 State where Atiku presidential campaign train has landed and the last South-West State to campaign.
