Lagos: 16-year-old apprentice electrocuted in boss workshop

A 16-year-old welder apprentice, Daniel Omoniyi, has died of electrocution at his boss’ workshop in the Mile 12 area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the incident happened around 7 pm on Wednesday.

Omoniyi’s colleagues, who were bent on rescuing him, rushed him to a nearby hospital for prompt treatment but he died on the way to the hospital.

According to PUNCH, Omoniyi’s mother, who had been bereaved by the tragic events that led to the death of her teenage son, reported the incident at the police station in Mile 12 on Thursday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

Hundeyin said, “The Mile 12 Police Division received the regrettable information on Thursday from the mother of one Daniel Omoniyi, a 16-year-old welder apprentice who was electrocuted inside their Mile 12 workshop around 7 pm on March 1, 2023. He was rushed to the hospital where he was later confirmed dead.

He said Omoniyi’s corpse had been deposited at the Lagos Mainland Hospital mortuary for further investigation.
